10 Soldiers, Four Civilians Reportedly Killed in Terrorist Attack on Borno Military Base
At least 10 soldiers and four civilians were reportedly killed after suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters attacked a military base in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. Security sources said the attackers arrived in large numbers and exchanged fire with troops for hours. The troops reportedly repelled the assault and killed several insurgents, but gun trucks and other operational vehicles belonging to the military and Civilian Joint Task Force were damaged or set ablaze. The Guzamala council chairman confirmed the attack but did not state the number of casualties. News of the incident reportedly emerged late because the area has no telecommunications network. The attack follows reports that terrorists seized more than 40 fishing boats from fishermen in Tumbun Barebari in the Lake Chad region.
