Israel’s Defence Minister Warns Gaza City Could Be Evacuated if an Israeli Is Abducted

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said Israel would not withdraw from its current positions in Gaza until Hamas is removed from power and the territory is demilitarised. Speaking at a memorial ceremony, Katz said Israel would escalate its response if an Israeli soldier or civilian were abducted. He said Gaza City’s residents could be ordered to evacuate in such a scenario. Katz also said Israeli forces were operating in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. He repeated Israel’s position that it would act against threats from Iran and allied armed groups.
