South Africa Summons US Ambassador Again as Tensions With Washington Deepen

South Africa has summoned US Ambassador Brent Bozell for the third time in nine months, accusing him of undiplomatic conduct amid worsening relations between Pretoria and Washington. The latest summons followed an opinion article in which Bozell accused the South African government of hostility towards the United States. The two countries remain divided over land reform, black economic empowerment policies, rural crime, and South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. Washington recently announced visa restrictions targeting South Africans it says support racial discrimination, violence, or uncompensated land seizures. Pretoria rejects claims of persecution of white farmers and insists it will not accept foreign interference in its domestic policies. Despite the diplomatic dispute, officials on both sides say discussions are continuing to address the outstanding issues.
