Steve Matheson, a 47-year-old father of four from Utah, died after he was struck by lightning while trying to help stranded boaters off Florida's Fort De Soto coast. Matheson had been jet skiing with a friend as a storm approached. The pair were heading back to shore when they spotted a disabled boat. He stopped to offer assistance before lightning struck him. He later died in hospital from his injuries. Friends and relatives described him as a devoted husband, father and man of faith who was always ready to help others. He is survived by his wife and four children.
