18-year-old charged with abducting 17-year-old outside school to force marriage
An 18-year-old man has appeared in a Melbourne court accused of kidnapping a 17-year-old student outside her secondary school. Police say Ayom Deng forced the girl into a vehicle as she arrived at Keysborough Secondary College on June 26 and fled the scene. He was arrested on July 1 and charged with abduction, kidnapping, false imprisonment and other offences while on bail. Court papers also allege Deng intended to marry the girl without her consent and drove without a licence. His lawyer told the court he has been diagnosed with PTSD and is vulnerable. Deng was remanded in custody and will return in September. A 15-year-old boy has also been charged and will appear in children’s court.
