Wike Says G5 Backed Obi and Tinubu to Stop Atiku in 2023

At a media parley in Port Harcourt, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said his political camp deliberately backed Peter Obi in some states and Bola Tinubu in Rivers during the 2023 presidential election to prevent Atiku Abubakar from winning. Wike said the group believed then-Benue Governor Samuel Ortom opposed a Muslim-Muslim ticket. According to him, the strategy helped split votes that would ordinarily have gone to the PDP in its South-South strongholds. He said Obi was supported in Cross River and Edo, while Rivers backed Tinubu. Asked whether the same strategy would be used again, Wike declined to disclose his plans.
