> At least 14 passengers narrowly escaped death while the driver sustained a minor injury when a commercial bus went up in flames along the Old Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The vehicle, a Toyota Hiace bus, was said to be heading to Asaba, Delta State when it suddenly caught up in flames in the middle of the bridge on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. 

An eyewitness and trader in the area, who identified himself as Obiora Uzor, said the passengers had managed to jump out of the bus before the fire finally engulfed the whole vehicle, adding that the driver sustained burns as the fire started from the front of the vehicle.

“The bus suddenly went up in flames while in motion and caused panic on the bridge as the passengers struggled to escape having been caught up by the fire. No one knew the cause of the fire," the witness said. 

“It caused a heavy gridlock to and fro the bridge as motorists and other passersby were battling to extinguish the fire before the arrival of firefighters who later controlled the inferno." 

The Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, in a statement on Thursday.

“The Anambra State Fire Service on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, received a distress alert at 0930 hours reporting of a vehicle (bus) engulfed by fire along the Bridge-head, Onitsha,” he said. 

“A crew of firemen and firefighting equipment were immediately deployed to the rescue. They extinguished the fire and ensured that it did not affect other vehicles that were plying the bridge.

“The cause of the incident is unknown. No life was lost. The public was advised to alert the fire service in time whenever there is a fire incident and to install fire extinguishers in their vehicles. Remember, fire kills but, we can prevent it."

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has commenced payment of compensation to property owners affected by the Quality Bus Corridor project in Ojuelegba and tenants in Lawanson.

Tenants in Ojuelegba began receiving compensation cheques on October 10, 2024.

As part of this initiative, LAMATA’s Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo presented cheques to some of the affected individuals today.

Engr. Akinajo expressed gratitude to the affected persons for their cooperation and understanding, emphasizing the importance of their sacrifices for the future of Lagos State. 

She highlighted the Government’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding those contributing to such significant projects. 

The presentation of cheques to property owners began on the 1st of November 2024 at the Surulere Local Government. 

Those with complete documentation verified by the Lagos State Lands Bureau received their cheques, while others were instructed to visit the LAMATA’s head office today. 

During the cheque presentation, representatives from the Ojuelegba CDA, including its Assistant Secretary, Olusegun Bamiduro, who represented the Chairman Mr. Saheed Bakare and Chairman of the Landlord and Tenants Association Alhaji Hakeem Bolaji thanked LAMATA and the Lagos State Government for bringing development to the area. They acknowledged the long engagement process, dating back to 2022, and expressed appreciation to all parties involved.

Additionally, they requested LAMATA to consider employing local youths during the project's construction and post-construction phases.

The Quality Bus Corridor Package 1 - Ojuelegba-Yaba-Lawanson-Cele is funded by Agence Francaise de développement and the Lagos State Government. It aims to modernize bus shelters and introduce intelligent transport systems to prioritize regulated public transport buses along three corridors identified for implementation.

Key LAMATA officials, including Technical Adviser, Corporate and Investment Planning, Engr. Osa Konyeha, Technical Adviser, Roads and Infrastructure, Engr. Adeyemi Adeniji, Mrs. Ibironke Omorhirhi and Engr. First aircraft lands in Chuba Okadigbo Airport after runway rehabilitation

The Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke, Ebonyi State have opened for flights on Thursday one year after it was closed for runway repairs by Ebonyi State government led by governor Francis Nwifuru.

The first aircraft conveying the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje and other prominent Nigerians landed safely at the Airport.

The commissioner for Aviation and transport technology, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki, expressed gratitude to the regulatory bodies in Nigeria; the FAN, NACA, NCAA, NEMA and Nigeria air state management for approving flights operations at the Chuba Okadigbo's airport.

NOTE: Not all certificates designated as level 2, 3, to 8 are Ofqual regulated. Many Nigerians have fallen prey to the gimmicks of fraudulent individuals who have decided to name none regulated programs as one. no wonder in various media you see some noice where people are offering Phelabotomy level 3 etc. this is laughable since they are not regulated. Also many have lost very big amount of money with some course designated as Health and social care level 3 but they are not regulated. 
Before you do any program, make sure they are Ofqual Regulated. Do not be moved by the levels attached to any. if in doubt, any Qualification that is not listed here is not NVQ and is not regulated as well.

It is very difficult for an Average Nigerian to come here for 3 or 4 years course to graduate because of heavy financial requirement except you have a good sponsor.

Note that NVQ can be evaluated by World Education Services (WES) for those who want to use it for both Educational and Career purposes in Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand etc.

A shocking incident unfolded in Lagos on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, when a commercial bus driver, attempting to avoid arrest for a traffic violation, set himself and Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) officials ablaze in the Mile 2 area, News360 Nigeria reports.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves across Lagos, occurred on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in the Cele inward Mile-2 area where the driver had been pulled over for violating traffic regulations.

In a video circulating on social media sighted by News360 Nigeria, a yellow-coloured 14-passenger city bus was parked almost in the middle of the road with at least 8 traffic officers clustered in front of it while involved in an argument with the driver.

In a twinkle of an eye, fire erupted and caught the traffic managers unaware. Not all of them were lucky to escape unhurt.

A man suspected to be the driver is caught in the fire too. He runs into the middle of the road, struggling to pull off his white singlet. In the process, he is almost hit by a petrol tanker.

Adebayo Taofiq, the director of the public affairs and enlightenment department at LASTMA, confirmed the incident in a statement.

The statement reads; “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been made aware of a distressing video showing the driver of a Volkswagen T4 commercial bus, license plate LSD 355 CK, setting both his vehicle and LASTMA officers ablaze in a brazen attempt to evade arrest.

“This shocking event transpired today, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, when the driver resisted arrest with extreme aggression by LASTMA officials. The vehicle had been intercepted for violating traffic regulations in the Cele inward Mile 2 area.

“In the course of arrest, the driver and his conductor erupted into a frenzy, resorting to pouring petrol on LASTMA personnel and engaging in hostile confrontations and physical attacks against officers present.”

LASTMA added that the injured officer was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

“The injured LASTMA officer, who sustained severe burns, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment,” the agency stated.

Commercial bus drivers are not new to clashes with LASTMA and the Lagos state traffic officials.

In 2022, A commercial vehicle driver himself ablaze in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos, to protest the seizure of his bus by officials of the LASTMA.

Two LASTMA officials were said to have dragged him out of the vehicle and started the ignition for onward movement to their base at Oshodi.

As they were about to move, the driver, according to eyewitnesses, poured fuel on his body and struck a stick of matches.

While efforts were on to put out the fire, other commercial bus drivers and conductors, including passers-by, started hauling stones at the LASTMA officials, a development that degenerated into a fight between the officials and hoodlums.

GABORONE – Botswana’s newly inaugurated President, Duma Boko, has announced plans to legalize the status of undocumented Zimbabweans living in the country.

Boko, who assumed office on Friday, told the BBC that he intends to grant temporary work and residence permits to Zimbabweans. He acknowledged the significant contribution of Zimbabwean workers to Botswana’s economy, particularly in sectors like domestic work and construction.

One was lured by “well wishers” who assured him he will be a big boy in Nigeria with his foreign degree, he will earn millions as a foreign trained doctor in the best private hospitals in Nigeria and especially due to the situation of things where he was at the time he obliged and returned he has been in Nigeria for 2 years now him and his foreign degree have been unable to find a job. 

A second guy has a similar story, he was working menial jobs abroad but was able to pay his bills and have little saved up he returned to Nigeria and has been struggling to make ends meet. 

People were quick to tell them “Come back, you dey there dey suffer when you suppose to they enjoy here”,

> It’s funny how life changes you when you take a step away. Years ago, I had several chances to leave Nigeria, but every time the idea came up, my friends and family would talk me out of it. They’d say, “Why leave when Nigeria has everything you need?” And for the longest time, I believed them. I loved Nigeria with a deep-rooted loyalty, convinced that no other place could offer what my home country did. Life felt familiar and secure, like a well-worn path.

But then 2015 happened. When President Muhammadu Buhari came into office, things began to change, and not in the way most of us hoped. Suddenly, what had felt like home started to look different. Even the most patriotic Nigerians around me were beginning to question the country’s direction. That was when I realized it might be time to reconsider staying. So when an opportunity to leave came around, this time, I didn’t hesitate.

I left with a suitcase full of dreams and a head full of Hollywood visions of the “abroad”—a place where money flows easily, life is good, and you can relax without a worry in the world. In my mind, it was a kind of paradise where you could live freely, get everything handed to you, and just coast along. But once I arrived, reality hit. Hard.

Life abroad wasn’t what I imagined. Finding a job was difficult, and unlike back home, there was no room for shortcuts. Every penny was earned, and every step was regulated by strict rules that left no room for bending. I couldn’t just walk over to a neighbor’s place to ask for something as simple as salt, like I could back in Nigeria. I worked harder than ever, sometimes to the point of exhaustion. There were days I felt like packing up and heading back. Each time I told my parents how tough it was, they’d brush it off, saying, “It’s just the devil trying to bring you back—stay strong.”

After five years, I finally decided to return for a short visit to Nigeria. I booked a ticket, excited to reconnect with family and friends, to see how things had changed. But when I landed, the Nigeria I came back to felt different from the one I left. At the airport, I immediately noticed a new sense of “urgency”—everyone seemed to have an angle, and it felt as though every interaction required a “tip” or an extra incentive.

The two weeks that followed were eye-opening. From the cost of living to the struggle for daily necessities, it was a wake-up call. I didn’t want to pay, so I waited longer, and the officer looked annoyed but finally let me through. At customs, things got real—they asked for 5,000 naira to let me pass without even checking my bags. I tried to talk my way out of it, but in the end, I had to settle with 3,000 naira. It was clear that "settling" was still very much part of life here.

Moving Around and the Police Checkpoints
As soon as I left the airport, I dressed down in slippers and simple clothes to avoid standing out. I blended in, but every few blocks, police checkpoints popped up, and they all expected something. If I didn’t give them “support money,” they’d keep me waiting, asking random questions. It became clear that in Nigeria, you don’t just go from one place to another; you have to be ready for these “stops.”

Seeing Family Again
Getting to my family’s home was the highlight. I hadn’t told them I was coming, so when I arrived, my mom was beyond happy. She hugged me tight, and I felt at home again. The next day, I took her to the hospital for a check-up, which felt like something I should have done sooner. Being there for her in person meant a lot.

Meeting Old Friends
Catching up with friends was great, but I quickly noticed a change. Many assumed I had a lot of money just because I’d been abroad. Some hinted, others asked directly, and it felt like every reunion came with expectations. I realized that being back came with responsibilities I hadn’t fully expected.

Eating Nigerian Food Again
One thing I’d missed was the food. I dived into everything—jollof, pounded yam, suya. The flavors were just as good as I remembered, but the prices? Shockingly high. Every meal cost way more than I thought it would. The cost of food had gone up, and it was clear that eating out wasn’t as cheap as it used to be.

High Hotel Prices and Constant Tipping
Staying in hotels was also pricier than I expected. The cheapest place in Lagos was around 40,000 naira a night, and even then, it was basic. Hotel staff were friendly, but everyone seemed to be expecting a tip. Every small favor came with an unspoken “thank you” in cash.

Power and Water Issues
Electricity had improved a bit, with some places using solar, but the water quality was bad in some hotels. The water smelled off in a few places, likely from old tanks, and some hotels didn’t have hot water. I missed having these basic comforts without thinking twice about them.

> LASG ROLLS OUT TRAFFIC DIVERSION PLAN FOR THE LAGOS WOMEN RUN

In view of the annual Lagos women run slated for Saturday, 9th November 2024, the Lagos State Government has rolled out a traffic diversion plan to enable motorists commute easily during the event.

During the event, the race route starting from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) inward to Water Board, Old NITEL, Outer Marina, Bonny Camp Bridge, Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Bridge, Falomo Roundabout, Awolowo Road, and Onikan Roundabout to Mobolaji Johnson will be partially closed.

Consequently the following alternative routes have been mapped to enable easy commuting;

Motorists heading to Third Mainland Bridge from Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue are advised to go through Bonny Camp to connect Onikan Underpass inwards Marina Exit to access Force Road to link Outer Marina and Third Mainland Bridge to reach their destinations.

Motorists heading to Ikoyi Road from Apongbon are to use Odunlami Street to connect Igbosere Road and proceed to Moloney Street to access Ikoyi Road to continue their journeys. There will be minimal impact on traffic flow within these routes.

ADVISORY:- Motorists are implored to be patient as the partial road closure is part of the traffic management plans for the race event highlighted.
