I just read an interesting story from Israel’s history. King Ahaziah fell from his palace roof and was seriously injured. Instead of asking God for guidance, he sent messengers to foreign soothsayers. God sent Elijah to declare that the king would not live.

The first soldiers spoke arrogantly when they reached Elijah. He called fire down from heaven, and they were consumed. The second group met the same fate. The third leader humbled himself and begged for mercy. An angel then told Elijah to go with him to the king.

This event shows how powerful our manner of approach can be. A humble request invites divine help, while prideful demands bring judgment. This principle applies whether you face spiritual or human authority.

Approach everyone with humility and respect. When you show reverence, your chances of a positive response increase significantly.

My question to Christians: did you know how brutally our forebears were taken from Africa? Over 12 million men, women and children were packed into ships like cargo. Many died of starvation or disease. Some were even thrown overboard so owners could claim insurance.

Chained by neck, hands and feet, they were treated worse than animals. Forced breeding, family abuse and daily violence were common. Church leaders, including bishops and popes, also owned slaves.

Yet the same Bible contains passages that endorse slavery. From Genesis to the New Testament, it instructs buying, selling and obeying slaves. How do we reconcile following a faith that once empowered this atrocity?

As Psalm 139:6 declares, such knowledge is too wonderful for us. Our longest lives here remain limited by sin and the fallen state of creation. The real path to eternal life is found not in science alone, but in the divine grace that transforms death into everlasting life.
