What My Colleague Told Me At Work

I remember my maternal grandfather because he was a great man. The thing is, this man had five wives. Can you imagine, five women to one man only o.

Now, the second wife was barren and desperately wanted a child so she had to marry a wife in her own name and handed over to the husband to have children in her name.

This woman paid the dowry on another woman and handed to her husband, after the new wife gave birth to three children, she was sent away and my grandfather's second wife assumed ownership of the children according our custom at that time.

Now, let that sink, one of your wives got her husband a younger banny to sleep with.

Walahi men don enjoy for past. Why was I born into this generation self. Even one woman na wahala.

Now, is there still a place where a woman can marry another woman and give to her husband in Nigeria.
Is there a name for this culture.

Now, when my grandfather was dying, he handed over his wives to his younger brother to take care and one of the wives ended up having two children for the younger bros.

Does This Practice Still Exist?

As much as it is possible, I want to briefly say that I am not all that bouyant but seeing the way things are going, it is even better to assume that all is well with Nigeria than to face reality because our reality is scary! Now, I know it would have been better to keep most of these things to myself but that would make the heart heavy and sadly enough, only few people are listening.

We live in a world where we can no longer openly or boldly condemn evil because it gives people money! Even the few who are still trying to be honest are being told to keep quiet. A close look at the family shows that decay comes from there and spreads through the society because it is no longer as before. In those days, when somebody says that he or she comes from a good family background, it means that the person has home training but now, even the training we receive at home is tainted with hatred for the other person. You don't have to tell your children to stop greeting the other neighbour simply because you have a minor issue with him or her. To even talk about hardwork these days is boring because nobody is talking about motivation anymore as it sounds foolish. Even the religious sector is generating more noise than solutions these days but the good thing is that we are in the hands of God! 

Now, to the main topic, it appears cybercri*me is now more palatable than the regular jobs because even the govt does not care about the unemployment rate anymore. Hence, more hands are on the deck to bring justice to the streets because in our very before, justice has been raped multiple times and no one is saying anything because the powers that be seem to be controlling the nation! It is not good to act as if all is well when the opposite is the case. Some people are still sitting on the fence and it's all good but the consequences are too many. Let us remove our eyes from the cybercr*me thingy and face the prostitution counterpart which has evolved into more than a million dollar industry then you would see that those who are into all these things choose to give them new and unheard sweet names instead of leaving them or speaking against them. 

We live in the age where the youths have no future! So, it's easy to start the blame game. No matter who you blame for whatever that befalls you, try to be doing something for yourself so that you can at least, be independent to an extent. The street is full of homeless people, the offices are full of people wrongly accused and the prisons are even filled with people on awaiting trial. So, try to make a different meaning out of the everyday events of your life. It could be better some day. Before I even say that some people are in the mortuary, I want to apologise to my past because we don't look alike anymore. So, if school doesn't work for you, try business. 

In all, I am resolute to find the meaning of life, the end of suffering and the difference between being patient and being desperate in the face of uncertainty knowing that people who procrastinate do not meet deadlines. When the light shines, we will be at the other end to have a complete view of the bigger picture.

So, people can now communicate fearlessly, drastically and sheepishly because the boldness is not there. When some people open their mouth, it seems as if a paranoid state is initiated but we can endure all these because correcting some people is now termed pride. So, we better understand our inner selves first. 

To initiate change, you have to take a moment to forget what so many people did and failed then sit down to calculate how to do a new thing! Even though, you are not God, you can achieve something on your own! 

Come to think of it, have you wondered why people distance themselves from people who they think are failures? It is because they don't want the disease to spread to them. In the level of status quo, there is no room for improvement! To actually do something, you have to shake up some people, some places and some habits a bit. Right now, the ground is shifting! Stand on the solid one. 

A sure way to avoid being a failure is to avoid letting what you think people would say about you to control you because in it, comes fear. So long as you're doing the right thing, listen to your innerself. To do that, you have to think of how to make the impossibility to be possible and that comes in gradual steps! First, think out of the box because their exists other options but be loyal to the hand that fed you when you had no capacity to do so. 

Running away from all sentimental conclusions, I want to say that any power that wants to help you will leverage on what you have been doing so far and in addition, you have to change if it doesn't work!

I noticed something and that is how the school calendar has been greatly adjusted. Years ago the Easter break used to be only two weeks but now... It's more.

Below was me being thankful for acquiring a skill during the break that year. Our church organized a women empowerment program and that was where I learnt how to produce toiletries and laundry soap. This later helped me as I was making and supplying soap and antiseptic to churches, schools and even a naijaworlder all the way from America once patronized me.

In recent times I have been coming across the term "evening newspaper" , being used to refer to some certain individuals oftentimes some female folks on this honourable site. 
The term is often used in a derogatory term to refer to ladies of a certain age group who are yet to marry.

I must confess that I find this term to be amusing considering the fact that I am an avid reader of newspapers expecially the evening newspapers.

Now due to the present economic impasse in the country, we find that lots of the menfolk are still single and yet to marry, in particular older males in their late thirties, early to mid- forties.

Can we refer to these categories of males as "evening newspapers" too.

I personally think if a man is not married at 35, he should be classified as an evening newspaper or what do you guys think.

Help. That's what I need, I really need help. At this point, I am completely fed up.
I graduated from school last year. While I was in school, my parents especially my father controlled my relationship with other people and made sure I had no friends in school to 'distract' me. Well, since they didn't stay in school with me, I made some good friends and well, just never spoke to anyone when I was home on holiday. Now I have finished school, I have nowhere to hide, I don't even talk to my friends from school again. I am lonely, really lonely. If someone as much as says hi to me, they become bad people. For my NYSC, my dad paid a really huge sum to make sure I served in Lagos, then he made sure I got posted to his workplace for my PPA. I didn't say anything, just let him have his way. I made three really good friends in camp, they were really good and easy going people but my dad decided that they were ritualists and only wanted to lure me out to cut my breasts and my private parts and use me for rituals or prostitution or even kidnap me. So I didn't talk to them again because I just wanted peace. Till now they still try to call and text me to check up on me. Now that I'm working in his office, I can't even talk to anybody, because apparently they are all bad people. We had an hangout planned and my dad made fun of me and refused to give me permission to go at my age of 21! I'm honestly fed up and I don't know what to do anymore. This is really affecting my mental health and my social life.

A final year student of the Accounting Department of Abia Polytechnic killed in a fatal accident near the school gate is set for burial. 

Miss Mary Ogechi Ezekiel, will be buried at her country home on 18th April 2024, in Ndi Ogbu Amakwu, Igbere, Abia State.

She was one of the brightest students in the school and was recently been recognized as the best student in her field. 

A burial arrangement released on behalf of the family by Ezekiel Abel Uko said her body will leave St Francis Mortuary, Aba-Owerri Road, and proceed to her hometown where it will be laid to rest. 

A candlelight procession has earlier been held in her honour at her Omuma Road, Aba Abia State. 

The 27-year-old had visited the school on Tuesday, the 5th of March 2024, to collect her final results. Little did she however know that this would be her last journey. 

She was feared dead while crossing the road near the school gate when she was fatally crushed by a fast-moving heavy truck. The impact of the accident was devastating, leading to her untimely demise.

She was preparing for her upcoming National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, a dream that has been cut short.

I recently lost a childhood friend who was very close to my family and to tell u the truth it hasn't been easy. Sometimes I wonder why we really come to this world just to die. Why is it that no matter how sophisticated a person is when death calls he or she becomes as useless as a log of wood? Now back to my question: which of these death pains the most?

(2). Death of a mother.
(3). Death of a sibling. 
(4). Death of a friend.
(5). Death of a mentor.

The reason I'm asking this question is because I saw how my dad who is up to 60 yrs of age and his siblings cried the day my grand parent died. I saw how my dad and siblings cried when they lost their eldest brother in 2019. A man that was about or more than 64 yrs of age by that time.

It's so sad that we had to come to this point in our society where justice can swept under the carpet.
Mohbad died in very mysterious circumstances and instead of everyone to be focused on looking for the root causes of the death of mohbad, people like very dark man diverted our attention from who killed mohbad to who is the father of mohbad's son.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Nollywood makeup artist, Abigail Edith Frederick, in Ikot Udoma, Eket Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by Ekerete Udoh, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Pastor Eno, on arrival from an official engagement in Abuja, went straight to the deceased family’s compound to console them.

The statement noted that the governor thereafter gave automatic employment in the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service to the surviving elder sister of the deceased, and directed the SSA on Humanitarian Services, Umo Ekpo, to renovate the family house and bring it to modern standards.

The governor also gave assurance of government’s assistance to the two sisters of the deceased, who are undergraduates at the University of Uyo and whose education was being sponsored by the late Nollywood makeup artist.

The governor, in his remark, said: “This is deeply unfortunate for a young girl, 24 years old, who finished her youth service just last year and decided to pursue her passion. This is a reflection of our Arise spirit. It shows that our young people are willing to go out there, not begging, not waiting for handouts, but to pursue their passions.

“It is unfortunate that her life ended the way it did. Once I was fully briefed, I decided to come here personally with the full complement of the government to console and encourage the family. You are not just the governor when people are celebrating; in times and moments like this, you become the mourner-in-chief and give them hope.

“I trust the Holy Spirit will perfect the hope in their lives. Coming here means we care. You know Akwa Ibomites are like Americans. We don’t leave each other behind. Government will be with the family and support them.”
