A NEWLY wedded Bulawayo woman pulled a shocker after disappearing a few hours after tying the knot at a colourful wedding ceremony. Then she spent the night with her secret lover, much to the chagrin of both sets of families.

Sisasenkosi Mpofu is alleged to have disappeared on the day she tied the knot with Mbongeni Moyo, a church elder at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Iminyela branch. The wedding took place at the end of May.

Mpofu reportedly spent the night with her secret lover and returned the following day. When Moyo quizzed her on her disappearing act, she failed to explain where she had slept.

It is said Moyo snatched her cell phone, went through the messages and allegedly stumbled upon love messages she had exchanged with her secret lover, identified as Geshom Gwatiringa, a police officer stationed at Hillside Police Station. Now between a rock and a hard place, Mpofu revealed that she had spent the night with Gwatiringa.

The matter has now spilt into the courts, where Moyo is accused of teaming up with his brother-in-law to assault Gwatiringa.

The court heard that a few days after the groom returned to her husband, Moyo then teamed up with his brother-in-law Fungai Mpofu and his friends, Prosper Ndlovu and Allen Munhuru and went to Gwatiringa’s home in Emakhandeni suburb.

“They went to Geshom’s place and arrived at around 1 am. They found him sleeping with his wife. They knocked at the door and he came outside. One of the accused persons grabbed Geshom by his neck accusing him of cheating with a married woman,” said prosecutor Christina Manyika in court.

They were not done yet. After that, they allegedly attacked Gwatiringa with fists and kicked him before they bundled him into their car and drove off heading to Entumbane Police Station.

“On the way to the police station they assaulted him with fists and open hands. They left him at the station, sadly Geshom collapsed as he severely bled,” said the prosecutor.

He was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention. After that, a police case was opened against Moyo and his accomplices leading to their arrest.

They appeared in court recently for trial before Western Commonage regional magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze facing an attempted murder charge and they pleaded not guilty.

In their joint defence they said: “We did not beat him up but we took him to a police station to report him for sleeping with a woman knowing fully that she has been married and recently tied the knot.”

They were remanded out of custody until 29 November

> A Bauchi State resident, Muhammad Ibrahim, has cancelled his wedding ceremony after medical tests revealed he is not genetically compatible with his fiancée, Fatima Abdulqadir.

In a Facebook post shared on November 21, 2024, Ibrahim announced the decision to call off the wedding, which was scheduled for November 29, 2024.

He explained that both he and his fiancée were AS genotype carriers, posing a significant risk of having children with sickle cell disease.

Ibrahim, a Zoology graduate from Bauchi State University, disclosed that they discovered this only last month after undergoing tests at two separate hospitals to confirm the results.

Saturday PUNCH gathered that the couple had been in a three-year relationship but had not prioritised genotype testing, assuming there would be no issues.

In the Facebook post, Ibrahim wrote, “Dear friends and family, it’s with an incredibly heavy heart that I regretfully announce the cancellation of my upcoming wedding.

“Due to unforeseen genetic compatibility issues, my partner and I have made the difficult decision to go our separate ways.”

He described the news as a “devastating shock”, adding that their inability to proceed with the wedding had left him heartbroken.

Speaking with our correspondent, Ibrahim said some family members encouraged him and his fiancée to proceed with their plans, but they declined.

He noted that the decision was made out of concern for potential health risks associated with having children who might inherit the sickle cell gene.

Meanwhile, the couple’s decision drew sympathy from their social media friends, with many commending their courage.

Ibrahim concluded his post by asking for prayers and understanding during what he described as a “dark hour.”

“It’s for the unborn children not to suffer,” one commenter wrote.

A statement issued by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, confirmed the commission’s response to the incident.

Initial reports mistakenly attributed the naira-spraying incident to the wedding of Fauziya Danjuma Goje, daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, leading to widespread public concern and editorial coverage from a major national newspaper.

However, Oyewale explained that EFCC’s investigation clarified that the naira abuse actually occurred at the wedding dinner of Zannah, daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, also known as Hafsat Gold Nigeria, the CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise with offices in Abuja, Kano, and Dubai.

He stated that Haruna acknowledged the incident, explaining that the groom’s family, hailing from Niger Republic, sprayed naira and dollar bills as part of the celebrations.

EFCC, emphasizing its dedication to upholding currency regulations, stated that it will act against anyone who violates these rules, regardless of status or nationality, while ensuring that no one is wrongfully accused.

The commission noted the importance of public vigilance and the impact of its currency-protection campaign across the country.

The statement read, “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a viral video where the nation’s currency, Naira, was freely sprayed at a wedding ceremony in Kano, Kano State on Friday, October 24, 2024.

“Allegations of the abuse of the Naira were imputed to Mrs Fauziya Danjuma Goje, daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, by Nigerians from all walks of life, including an Editorial by a leading and respected National Newspaper.

“As a responsible and accountable anti-corruption agency campaigning against currency mutilation and dollarization of the economy, the EFCC swung into action by analysing the video and findings showed that the alleged naira abuse actually happened but not at the wedding of Goje’s daughter but at the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah held on the afore-mentioned date.

“Zannah is the daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna(a.ka. Hafsat Gold Nigeria) who is the Chief Executive Officer of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise with offices in Abuja, Kano and Dubai (United Arab Emirate).

“Haruna confirmed the viral video. She admitted that the alleged naira abuse took place at the wedding dinner of her daughter. The bridegroom, Ibrahim Mohammad hails from Niger Republic and those that allegedly sprayed naira notes and dollar bills were from the groom’s family in Niger Republic.

Cameroonian Bride Drops Dead While Dancing During Her Own Wedding Reception

> Gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed one Justice Onyekachukwu Elimani, a day to his traditional wedding in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Onyekachukwu and his partner, Blessing were set to tie the knot on Saturday, 23rd November, 2024, at Umusam in Kwale. 

According to eyewitnesses, Elimani and one other victim identified as Double C, were k!lled in separate attacks on Friday, November 22. 

One of the witnesses said the former groom-to-be was walking with friends to purchase items for the wedding when he was ambushed and killed by suspected members of a rival cult group.

Double C's lifeless body was discovered at Utagba-Uno Junction. 

A third victim was injured and being treated at an undisclosed location. 

It was gathered that security personnel have mounted roadblocks across the area to prevent further violence and contain the situation.
