I have been following the cassava thread in this section for some months now.

Now I decided to invest and farm cassava, but was discouraged by the cost estimate I got from the platform. 

I'm actually working on three hectares for the start and see how it goes.

Now I can give a breakdown of my expenses.

Cost of renting 1hectr: #5000( five thousand naira)
Cost of clearing: I spent #15000( 15 thousand naira 
The cost of help is #10 naira for one. How it works here is 400 heeps, after calculation, you will get #4000 but if you plead with the workers you might get lucky for #3000.

My Farm Experience And Cost

Let me start by encouraging someone who is lost somewhere and trying to figure out life . 

I have only 4 pieces of advice I have experimented with, and it works absolutely perfectly and can simultaneously change your reality about life and money 

1- Study the laws of the universe. 

2- Forget about any form of religion.

3 - Use or be used, but dont be useless .

4 - The government does't care about you. 

So it's harvest time, and I decided to go back to my farm and do the needful. 
When I arrived as usual, the locals were already there cutting the rice as early as 5:am (Asuba) Arabic word for early morning.

An Innovation That Needs You!

Ogun State government has called for the continued support of private sector in the agricultural development efforts of the present administration to attain food sufficiency.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food security, Hon. Bolu Owootomo made the call during the farm inputs distribution to Small Holder maize farmers across Ogun State put together by the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation.

Hon Owootomo noted that the capacity building and distribution inputs to maize farmers were in tandem with the efforts of the present administration at supporting the small holder farmers to improve their productivity.

The Agriculture and Food security said there was the need for the foundation to consider women farmers especially in the rural areas and financial inclusion as essential components of achieving food security in their next intervention programmes.

Hon Owootomo who used the event to encourage the local and other investors to explore the investment opportunities that abound in the agriculture sector of the State restated the resolve of the Ogun State government to continue to encourage synergy with various development partners through different initiatives and interventions.

Earlier, the general manager, British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation, Mr Oludare Odusanya had explained that distribution of the farm inputs to five hundred maize farmers in the Ogun State was aimed at providing succour for them in the midst of hardship and enhanced food productivity and availability of the commodity.

Mr Odusanya who noted that over a million farmers in the agriculture value chain had benefited from their various interventions restated the commitment of the foundation to partner governments to boost food production in the country.

In a remark, The Chairman, Maize farmers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter Mr Kokumo Olanrewaju said the distribution would go a long way to increase the production rate of the commodity.

Some of the beneficiaries who went home with items like Maize, fertilizer and insecticide thanked the sponsors of the programme and called for the sustainability of the initiative geared towards empowering the farmers n the state.

EU biodiesel prices experienced a decline due to improved supply and subdued demand. Roman Zenon Dawidowicz further emphasizes that there is a notable discussion within the market regarding the influx of cost-effective SME volumes from Argentina into the EU, exerting pressure on local biodiesel prices. It’s worth recalling that under the agreement between Argentina and the EU, Argentina has the green light to export a maximum of 1.2 million metric tons of biodiesel annually.

Feedstock prices remained relatively stable, with rapeseed oil even showing an uptick. Market participants across Europe and origin countries noted a recent cooling in demand for UCO from the EU, which mirrored in price adjustments. According to one source, “In Asia, the rotation of vessels from oil majors has been fulfilled, with cargoes being picked up. More ships are expected to arrive in Asia in about a month. Typically, prices rise upon the arrival of vessels from oil majors.” Another source mentioned, “Major players appear adequately supplied with UCO for the time being.” CIF ARA offers for UCO in flexi bags were reportedly in the range of $990–1030 per metric ton. POME prices also stabilized, supported by the moderation of CPO benchmarks and the resumption of collection activities in Indonesia post-Ramadan. Offers at $810–830 per metric ton FOB Indonesia are reported.

The UCOME-UCO spread currently stands at $225 per metric ton, compared to $400 per metric ton at the start of April which are challenging margin conditions for UCOME producers. UCOME is encountering difficulties in competing against HVO.

The Fastest Growing Poultry Farm In Nigeria

I am a Ghanaian who's enjoyed NLF for more than a decade. I plan to cultivate cowpea and soybean now to be harvested around late July. 
It will still be raining small small. I'm from the north where the crop dries before we harvest but I bought farmland in the south where they farm twice a year. 
We just cut or uproot the beans in the north and put the whole plant in the thresher without picking the pods. 
I would like to know if this is also possible for beans harvested in July as there may be a little more moisture. It would be difficult picking the pods from 5 to 15 acres before threshing.

I've seen corps planted by the road side eaten by animals so also those planted out f reach of domesticated animals but still eaten up by weevils and caterpillar especially corn. All these sum together could lead to low crop yield but this I've never researched into till we've almost become a victim here in the farm after our corn field came under attack of caterpillar from the eggs laid by butterflies.

That said, my self and my assistance planted corn and after about 14days, started seeing butterflies in their 2s moving in their zigzag pattern perching randomly on crops and with the next 5 days, the form leaves started becoming horrible and it quickly caught my attention and his but we both kept quite until I called his attention, though he is a farmer but couldn't say while we both agreed its caterpillar.

I observed the situation during the day and nothing serious is seen but at night when the sunlight has gone, the caterpillar comes out to feed then I connected the lines as to previous observation as I observed the whole farm around and take daily record observation realising that days earlier the butterflies swarm round the farm perching randomly on the leaves thus realising they were trying to breed in the farm by laying their eggs on the field.

The following day we administer a pesticide, we had another encounter about this because the first pesticide was wash off by rain minutes after applying while the second spray too wasn't effective because of the brand until another better brand was administer and the corp are expected to be better soon.

Our Experience Dealing With Caterpillar In Our Corn Field.

Good day naijaworlders, I created this diary to document my farming experience this year. 

I have read so many threads on crop cultivation on this forum and yearned to start something myself but the opportunity only came this year so I grabbed it with my two hands.

My Farm Projects This Year.

The Bauchi State organized a stakeholders’ scoping workshop on the Bauchi State Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ), Phase II project, one of the projects introduced by the African Development Bank (ADB) to boost agriculture and promote food availability and security.

The State Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Simon Madugu Yalams, speaking at the event held at the Conference Hall of the State Agricultural Development Project (BSADP), noted that the purpose of the workshop is to sensitize the stakeholders about the project.

The commissioner, represented by the Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Agriculture, Dr. Iliyasu Aliyu Gital, disclosed that based on the performance of the SAPZ and the quality of the proposed project, other banks, such as the Arab Development Bank and the International Bank for Agricultural Development, are also funding the project.

He explained that no fewer than fifty participants have been selected from the 20 local government areas of Bauchi state, with Bauchi LG having five slots, including the university community, security, the media, and government officials, to participate in the SAPZ Phase II project.

He pointed out that the workshop will also give the participants the opportunity to know what is expected of them and their environment, particularly at this time when the project is taking environmental assessment into consideration, adding that SAPZ cannot be started without ensuring that the concerned people are fully aware and educated about it.

Why I Chose Village Chicken Over Broilers!

Good evening experience agriculturalists/farmers.

I planted about 15 rows of maize in my backyard. They were germinating fine until I arrived home this night to see them all dugged up and disappear.

The hole in which I planted each seeds has been left open and empty with no signs of the young plants anywhere.

I am suspecting my neighbor's two chickens as been behind the painful act but I am not sure yet. My backyard is not fenced. So the chickens do regular wandered from my neighbor's house at the back into my backyard.

Am I right in my suspicion or could another animal like bush rats be behind the destruction of my Germinating seedlings?

I presently isn't buoyant enough to afford to fence off my backyard farm, so I will appreciate if there are alternative solutions I can apply before replanting a new set of seeds.

I presently have a big heap of dead leaves and grasses in my front yard and I am wondering if I could spread those around the backyard farm to make a low temporary fence/barrier? 

I am not a farmer I took great effort to clear the backyard and do the planting which has now turned to waste.

As at today I have 26 local chicken

They would have been more if I did separate the chicks from the mother hen on time.

What I do now, when the hen hatch, I give her 2 weeks to raise the chicks, then I separate her from the chicks, in less than two weeks, they usually go back laying eggs.

Caught One Of The Bird That Usually Attacks My Free Range Chickens.

Previously, most of the water-saving irrigation equipment we commonly encountered was micro-sprinkler irrigation. Now, what we see here is micro spray tape, which is also a type of water-saving irrigation equipment. It might not be very clear on camera, but there are many small holes laser punched on it. What is the function of this micro spray tape?

Firstly, its characteristic is that it is relatively uniform, unlike regular micro spray tapes, which have dead corners where water cannot reach. On my way to farm this morning I decided to go through a farm where palm wine is tapped so I can get fresh palm wine for my stomach.

I reached a point where I see a crab always at the entrance of it's hole but didn't see it today so I decided to look around when I saw this snake with its head in a hole and its body outside not moving. I knew it was alive cause it looked fresh.
