In a now-viral video, a soldier laid out the meager supplies and questioned how funds meant for their welfare were spent. His revelations have fueled public outrage and raised concerns about the treatment of troops.

Nigerians online are calling for transparency and accountability from military authorities. Many demand immediate action to ensure soldiers receive adequate support on their missions.

Two middle-aged individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident on Sunday evening along the Ibadan–Oyo expressway in Afijio Local Government Area, Oyo State. Eyewitnesses report that the trailer driver attempted to avoid large potholes near Fiditi town but instead struck the victims as they returned from a trip to Ibadan.

The motorcyclist died instantly at the scene. His passenger, a woman, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries a few hours later. Witnesses say the driver’s sudden maneuver caused the fatal collision.

Bayode Olugbesan, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations) of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Oyo State, confirmed the crash. He noted that only one death had been certified initially and that further hospital follow-ups were underway to confirm the second fatality.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has raised alarm over persistent traffic offences by Nigerian road users. Corps Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide says many drivers and passengers deliberately test enforcement limits.

Ogungbemide likens repeat traffic offenders to church “first-timers,” noting that fresh violators surface each time arrests are made. He calls habitual rule-breakers “reprobate offenders” and warns that they openly admit plans to continue flouting laws.

To tackle the problem, the FRSC uses a point-based system. Offenders accumulate demerit points on their driver’s licences. Reaching a threshold leads to licence suspension or withdrawal.

The Corps now seeks explicit power to arrest passengers involved in offences. Ogungbemide also urges stronger judicial support to ensure tougher penalties and curb recidivism.

We, the owners of land and buildings on Arewogbola Street, Aboru, Lagos, write to report an illegal structure blocking our street. This obstruction makes it impossible for us to access our properties.
