Troops Rescue Four Gwoza Victims Held Since 2023, Free Hundreds Nationwide

The Nigerian military says troops rescued two women and two children who had been held by terrorists since the 2023 farming season. The four victims were found near Amuda Bridge in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State and handed over to community leaders. The Defence Headquarters said the rescue formed part of nationwide operations that freed hundreds of abducted people within the week. Troops also arrested suspected terrorists, informants and logistics suppliers, while recovering arms, ammunition and other items. Major rescue operations were reported in Borno, Benue, Kogi, Edo, Kwara and Niger states. The military said 308 abducted people, mostly women and children, were freed from Kainji Lake National Park in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The Armed Forces said it will sustain operations with other security agencies, local security groups and communities to disrupt terrorist and kidnapping networks nationwide.
