New Abia Police Commissioner Pledges Intelligence-Led Policing and Discipline
CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo has assumed office as the 35th Commissioner of Police in Abia State. He took over at the Police Command headquarters in Umuahia after the former commissioner, Danladi Isa, was promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police. The new commissioner said intelligence-led policing, stronger community engagement and improved personnel welfare will guide his administration. He pledged to work closely with traditional rulers, youth and religious leaders, schools, businesses and journalists to improve information-sharing and prevent crime. CP Afolabi also promised training in human rights, investigations, crime mapping, emotional intelligence and electoral laws ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said officers who make correctable mistakes will be mentored, while deliberate misconduct, including unjustified use of force, will attract firm disciplinary action.
