Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has backed France to win the 2026 World Cup after his original pick, Germany, was eliminated. France reached the quarter-finals unbeaten, topping Group I with wins over Senegal, Iraq and Norway. They have since beaten Sweden 3-0 and edged Paraguay 1-0 via a Kylian Mbappé penalty. Speaking at a Paris Fashion Week event, Okoye said he had been rooting for Germany but now believes France is the strongest contender. The 2018 champions aim to build on their runners-up finish from 2022.
