Plateau and UNICEF Deploy Emergency Teams to Contain Cholera Outbreak

Plateau and UNICEF Deploy Emergency Teams to Contain Cholera Outbreak

The Plateau State Government and UNICEF have deployed Case Area Targeted Intervention teams to contain cholera in affected and high-risk communities. The response began after a four-day training for health and water, sanitation and hygiene personnel. Teams have started work in Angwan Damisa, Jos North, and other vulnerable areas, including Filin Sata in Angwan Rukuba. One team is chlorinating water sources, while another is disinfecting homes and surrounding areas linked to confirmed cases. Of four confirmed cases in the immediate area, one patient is receiving treatment at a local primary health centre. UNICEF has also supplied cholera vaccines to affected local government areas. Health officials urged residents to maintain hygiene, use safe water and support community efforts to prevent further infections.
