NLC Directs Indefinite Strike Across FCT Over Teachers’ Disputes
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the FCT has directed workers in the FCT Administration and affiliated public and private-sector unions to begin an indefinite strike on Wednesday. The action follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum to the FCT Administration over disputes affecting teachers. The union is demanding an end to the vacancy requirement for promotions, the withdrawal of redeployment and demotion letters issued to affected education directors, and the inclusion of eligible 2025 teachers in promotion examinations. The NLC also wants the management teams of the FCT Secondary Education Board and Universal Basic Education Board dissolved and reinstated. It said schools, hospitals, offices and other government establishments under the FCT Administration should remain closed until the demands are addressed.
