Democracy Day: Tinubu Warns Bandits to Surrender or Face State’s Full Force
President Bola Tinubu has warned bandits, kidnappers and terror sponsors to surrender immediately or face decisive action by security forces. He vowed no mercy for those who trade in the blood of Nigerians and said the window for surrender will not remain open indefinitely. He highlighted intensified recruitment into the police and military, improved intelligence gathering and more precise counter-terrorism operations. He cited the successful raid on an ISWAP command centre in Arege, Borno State, as evidence of growing progress. Tinubu noted a significant decline in terror-related deaths since 2015 and revealed that over 13,000 terrorists have been neutralised in the past year. He said more than 124,000 fighters and dependants have surrendered through the Operation Safe Corridor programme since 2023. Acknowledging ongoing threats after recent abductions in Oyo and Borno, he announced a historic N5.41 trillion defence budget for 2026. He urged Nigerians to reject ethnic profiling and stand united against crime.
