Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha says his unexpected rise to global fame during the 2026 World Cup has taken away much of his peace and privacy. The 40-year-old became one of the tournament’s breakout stars after making seven saves in Cape Verde’s goalless opening-game draw with Spain. His social-media following reportedly rose from 56,000 to more than one million that day, eventually passing 20 million by the end of the tournament. Vozinha said fans now approach him for photos and autographs whenever he goes out, while others film him without permission. He added that people visit his mother’s home in Cape Verde daily to ask for pictures. Now with Chilean club Colo-Colo, the goalkeeper says he has turned down several commercial offers and will not promote tobacco, alcohol or betting brands.
