Enugu Cuts Domestic Debt by 52.7% as Four States Record Major Reductions

Enugu, Jigawa, Ondo and Zamfara reduced their domestic debt by more than 20% between December 2025 and June 2026, according to Debt Management Office data. Their combined domestic debt fell from ₦224.66 billion to ₦126.85 billion, a reduction of ₦97.81 billion or 43.53%. Enugu recorded the largest drop, cutting its debt from ₦157.60 billion to ₦74.51 billion. Jigawa reduced its debt by 34.71%, Ondo by 26.82% and Zamfara by 20.86%. Overall, 26 states reduced domestic debt during the period, while 10 states and the FCT recorded increases. Edo had the largest increase, followed by the FCT, Borno, Adamawa and Delta.
