Father Reprimanded After Leaving Tired 7-Year-Old Alone on Mount Fuji
Japanese police have reprimanded a father who left his 7-year-old son alone on Mount Fuji while continuing a hike with the boy's older brother. The child became tired and did not want to continue. His father reportedly told him to wait on a bench at the Fujinomiya trail's sixth station, about 2,500 metres above sea level. A worker later found the boy sitting alone near a mountain hut and alerted authorities. Police were waiting when the father and older brother returned about five hours later. The boy was unharmed, while the father was warned he could face criminal liability. Mount Fuji climbers can face altitude sickness and sudden severe weather, prompting authorities to introduce stricter safety rules in recent years.
