Jonathan Mulls 2027 Presidential Return as Court Weighs Eligibility Bid

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says he will consult widely before deciding on a run in the 2027 presidential election. His remarks come as a Federal High Court in Abuja prepares to hear a suit challenging his eligibility to return to office. Jonathan made the comments while meeting youth groups in Abuja who urged him to join the race. “The presidential contest is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely,” he said. He commended young Nigerians for their patriotism and called for peaceful, credible elections. He warned that flawed processes drive capable citizens away from politics. Jonathan also expressed concern over Nigeria’s low voter turnout compared with other countries and stressed the need for greater citizen participation.
