The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has initiated a comprehensive operation to contain a fire outbreak at 48 Breadfruit Street Apongbon Lagos, at about 12:24hrs Monday.

The blaze, originating from the second floor of a 3-storey building housing various hair wigs, prompted a swift and coordinated response from multiple fire crews, including those stationed at Ebute Elefun, Sari Iganmu, Dolphin and Alausa of the agency, as well as @Fedfireng

Despite challenges posed by the difficult terrain and heightened concerns among traders, the fire has been successfully extinguished, preventing its spread to adjacent properties and salvaging what remains of the affected structure.

There have been no reported casualties and the cause of the fire is attributed to careless handling of a generator.

Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who was born on December, 1st, 1969 in Kaduna to Pastor Francis Shaibu and Lucy Momoh of blessed memories, hails from Jattu Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Comrade Shaibu started his education at St. Augustine Primary School, Tundu Wada Kaduna but finished at L.E.A Primary School Barnawa, Kaduna State.

Nollywood actor, Junior Pope, dies in a boating accident.

Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the sad demise of Nollywood actor, Junior Pope. The actor and three of his colleagues were coming back from a movie location in a boat when they fell into Anam River in Anambra state. 

Their bodies have since been recovered.

Hours ago, the actor shared a video of himself taken yesterday in a boat and praying frantically to arrive at his destination safely. The accident unfortunately happened on his way back from the location today April 10th.

The actor is survived by his wife and three children. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says prices of Garri, yam, ‘Akpu’ and other food items increased in March.

The bureau disclosed this in a report titled Consumer Price Indices Report for March 2024, released on Monday.

The report shows that the prices of food items have skyrocketed, leaving many people unable to afford staple foods.

On food inflation, the bureau said: “The food inflation rate in March 2024 was 40.01 percent on a year-on-year basis, which was 15.56 percentage points higher compared to the rate recorded in March 2023 (24.45 per cent).

“The rise in food inflation on a year-on-year basis was caused by increases in prices of the following per cent items:

“Gari, millet, Akpu uncooked fermented (which are under the bread and cereals class), yam tuber, water yam (under potatoes, yam, and other tubers class), dried fish sardine, and mudfish dried (under Fish class).

“Palm oil, vegetable oil (under Oil and Fat), beef feet, beef head, liver (under meat class), coconut,

watermelon (under Fruit Class), Lipton tea, Bournvita, Milo (under coffee, tea, and cocoa class).

Further analysis of the report showed that Southern states, led by Abia and Cross River, recorded the highest food prices on a Month-on-Month basis.

On the other hand, states within the North East (Borno and Yobe) recorded the lowest food inflation during the time.

“On a Month-on-Month basis, however, March 2024 Food inflation was highest in Abia (5.17 percent), Cross River (5.14 percent), Bayelsa (4.75 percent), while Borno (1.59 percent), Yobe (2.08 percent) and Adamawa (2.12 percent) recorded the slowest rise in Food inflation on Month-on-Month basis.”

A Nigerian man describes a transformative event he had as a student, when he was suspected of having an affair with his silent landlord’s daughter.

Using the X platform, a social media user using by the handle @Nsukka_okpa revealed that he was well-known for being friends with his landlord’s daughter. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to him, he had a special spot in his compound where he often reads, alongside his landlord’s daughter who relaxes under the same tree.

Despite the girl’s inability to exchange extensive dialogue, they were able to connect and become friends.

However, the story changed when he returned from a three-month program and was accused of impregnating the girl, leading to the involvement of a juju man.

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has sued the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, for allegedly defaming his character.

This was seen in a court process filed by Igboho’s lawyers led by J. A. Sanusi.

The court document on Wednesday shows the suit was filed at the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan.

The separatist leader prayed that the court should award a compensation of N500 million against Gani Adams for the alleged defamatory statements against him.

Among others, Igboho prayed for an order of the court “for the payment of exemplary and aggravated damages in the sum of Five Hundred Million Naira (N500,000,000.00) in favour of the Claimant for defamation of the person of the Claimant by the Defendant. Cost of litigation put at the sum of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000.00)”.

Igboho said that Gani Adams accused him of being a serial killer and assassin for top politicians, including President Bola Tinubu, in an audio conversation in 2021.

Igboho denied the allegations and urged the court to declare the content of the audio clip as slanderous against his character.

Igboho said it is “unlawful, inappropriate and inexcusable for the Defendant to defame, disparage and put to disrepute the character and reputation of the Claimant in an audio clip published on all new media platforms, including YouTube, in a publication that took place between the Defendant and a third party, Mr Nuru Banjo, sometime in November 2021 or thereabout.”

Igboho also prayed for an order of the court “directing the Defendant to engage all new media platforms, including YouTube, to take down the slanderous, libellous and defamatory content against the Claimant as said by the Defendant to a third party, Mr Nuru Banjo, from their various new media platforms.”

It asked the court to direct “the Defendant to tender an unreserved apology to the Claimant in five National Newspapers in Nigeria over defamatory content against the Claimant by the Defendant who has been published on all new media platforms, including YouTube”.

In addition, Igboho asked for an “order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant, his agent, privies or assigns from further scandalizing, assaulting, embarrassing, degrading or defaming the person of the Claimant.”
