Kaduna, Nigeria – July 25, 2025. The National Forum of Ex-Councilors of Nigeria has condemned Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a “deceitful and desperate politician.” At a media luncheon, Ambassador Awal Kasim Hassan branded Kwankwaso’s claim that President Tinubu favours the South as a political stunt to win Northern support ahead of 2027.

Ambassador Hassan highlighted Tinubu’s major Northern initiatives. He cited the new Ministry of Livestock Development, the Northwest and North Central Development Commissions, the Lagos–Kebbi Highway and the revival of Northern railways as evidence of balanced governance.

The Forum also accused Kwankwaso of corruption during his Kano tenure and promised a nationwide campaign to expose him. It said its legal team will petition the EFCC to reopen pending cases, urging Northerners to “know his true colours.”

On July 13, 2025, the Abakaliki Diocesan Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (ABCYON), Onitsha branch, marked its 15th anniversary with a thanksgiving Mass at St John De Baptist Church, Oduagbu, Onitsha South.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) convened over 20 radio and television stations in Awka for a one-day workshop on ethical political broadcasting ahead of the Anambra South senatorial bye-election and the November 8, 2025 governorship poll.

NBC Director-General Charles Ebuebu, represented by Secretary Gloria Makinde, urged broadcasters to uphold professionalism, self-regulate and guard against hate speech, fake news and AI-generated misinformation. He reminded them that Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution mandates the media to inform the public, promote peace and hold leaders accountable.

Speakers from NBC’s Monitoring, Investigation and Enforcement units outlined key provisions of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code, Electoral Act and ARCON Act. They stressed the need for delay mechanisms on live shows, fact-checking teams, log books for partisan content and an internal complaints committee.

Station heads, including Odenigbo FM and Wazobia FM Onitsha, pledged full compliance with NBC guidelines to ensure balanced, fair and credible coverage throughout the election period and beyond.
