Appeal Court Affirms McDonald Igbadiwei as INC President, Dismisses Iyanga’s Suit

The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt has affirmed McDonald Igbadiwei as president of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), ending the leadership dispute brought by retired Rear Admiral Geoffrey Iyanga. Iyanga challenged the process that produced the INC National Executive Council, raising objections over the electoral committee and candidates’ eligibility. However, the appellate court held that the Yenagoa High Court should have determined its jurisdiction before considering other issues. The court consequently dismissed the suit and upheld the April 10, 2026 INC election conducted at Ijaw House, Yenagoa, by the Francis Tabai-led electoral committee.
