Lagasa Indigenes Seek Lagos Government Intervention in Obaship Dispute
Indigenes of Lagasa Community in Ibeju-Lekki have appealed to the Lagos State Government to intervene in a dispute over the proposed installation of an Oba. The Oyinubi Ogunga Baruwa Odofin Chieftaincy Family says the Odofin family are the community’s customary indigenes and ancestral landowners. The family alleges that it was not consulted before Adeleke Nosir Yisa Ogundare Daodu was reportedly endorsed for the stool. During a peaceful protest at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the group called for an independent investigation into Lagasa’s history, customary ownership and traditional leadership structure. They said a fair hearing for all parties is needed to prevent the disagreement from escalating.
