Rio Ngumoha’s England Call-Up Could Narrow His Super Eagles Switch Window
Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha remains eligible to represent Nigeria through his family heritage, despite appearing for England’s senior team. He has made two competitive appearances, while a friendly does not count toward the competitive-match limit described in FIFA’s eligibility rules. Ngumoha is in England’s squad for November’s Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain. If he plays in both, he would reach four competitive appearances and lose the option of switching to Nigeria under those rules. The 18-year-old is also eligible for France and Guadeloupe. Nigeria’s opportunity to persuade him to choose the Super Eagles may therefore be narrowing, but the squad call-up alone does not settle his international future.
