Nigeria, Türkiye Explore Local Defence Production and Technology Transfer
The Federal Government says it is pursuing a self-reliant defence industry that can meet the needs of the Armed Forces while supporting industrial growth, jobs and skills development. At the 7th Nigeria–Türkiye Defence Industries Cooperation Meeting in Abuja, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle said future partnerships should focus on joint production, technology licensing, co-development and local manufacturing capacity. He said the DICON Act 2023 provides a framework for local defence production and private-sector participation, but added that the policy must lead to measurable industrial and technological capacity. Turkish officials also expressed readiness to expand investment and cooperation with Nigerian defence companies.
