315 Stranded Nigerians to Return Home on Final Air Peace Evacuation Flight

315 Stranded Nigerians to Return Home on Final Air Peace Evacuation Flight

The Federal Government has finalised arrangements for the last phase of its emergency repatriation from South Africa. A chartered Air Peace flight will depart Johannesburg at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, carrying 315 Nigerian nationals. It is scheduled to arrive at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:30 a.m. local time. This marks the fifth and final flight under the evacuation programme launched in response to recent xenophobic incidents. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked its regional partners, aviation authorities and state agencies for their support throughout the operation.

Good point – they'll probably deal with long lines at immigration and limited ride options afterward.

It seems odd that the government waited this long to organise the last evacuation flight for stranded citizens.

I'm not convinced the final flight arrangement is enough without clearer plans for post-arrival housing and support.

The government should partner with local agencies to provide immediate transportation and temporary lodging upon arrival.
