Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has reportedly chosen 21-year-old Nico Paz as the player to take over the national team’s iconic No. 10 shirt when Lionel Messi retires from international football. Messi has worn the number since 2009 and led Argentina to the World Cup and two Copa América titles. He made a record 172 appearances in the famous shirt. Reports say the decision could be formalised if Scaloni renews his contract through the 2030 World Cup. Paz, who plays for Como in Italy, wore No. 10 at club level and contributed 13 goals and seven assists last season as the club secured Champions League qualification. The young playmaker is expected to have a bigger role as Argentina begin planning for life after Messi.
