Iyere Says Opposition Split Has Weakened Its Chances Against APC in 2027
Kennedy Iyere says the opposition may struggle to unseat the APC in 2027 unless major political figures rebuild a united front. He argued that Peter Obi should have remained in the ADC to increase pressure on Atiku Abubakar to step aside. In his view, this could have improved the prospects for a southern presidential ticket. Iyere also said the earlier alignment of Obi, Atiku and Rabiu Kwankwaso unsettled some political leaders. He believes the coalition’s fragmentation has reduced the momentum seen around Obi’s 2023 campaign. The Accord Party senatorial candidate added that he does not currently see the level of opposition mobilisation needed to stop President Bola Tinubu from retaining power in 2027.
