Shettima Opens Borno Teaching Hospital and Two Schools in Maiduguri
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has inaugurated the Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, alongside the remodelled Yerwa Central Primary and Junior Secondary School and the Kashim Shettima Free Education Academy. The teaching hospital is expected to provide specialised tertiary healthcare for Borno residents and reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for treatment. It will also serve as a clinical training centre for medical students, resident doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals. Governor Babagana Zulum said the state would continue to recruit health workers, provide equipment and improve infrastructure. The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria also pledged support towards accrediting relevant medical courses and house-officer training at the facility. The new schools are intended to expand access to education for children in communities affected by years of insurgency and displacement.
