8 Nigerian Women Share Their Experiences Managing Male Subordinates
Managing a team can be difficult, but several women say leading male subordinates has brought added pressure. Eight women share experiences of workplace bias, resistance to authority and attempts to undermine their leadership after promotions. Some recall colleagues who missed deadlines deliberately, spread rumours, filed false complaints or interfered with important schedules. Others describe being judged as “bossy” for setting boundaries, while kindness was sometimes misread as weakness or personal interest. Not every experience was negative. A few women say their male subordinates were professional, supportive and focused on getting the job done. Their stories show how respect, clear communication and a healthy workplace culture can make a major difference.
