INEC Opens 38-Day Window for 2027 Election Primaries

INEC Opens 38-Day Window for 2027 Election Primaries

The Independent National Electoral Commission has launched the formal process for the 2027 general elections. A 38-day window from April 23 to May 30, 2026, allows parties to organise primaries for presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly candidates. Parties must submit membership registers at least 21 days before their primaries, with a final deadline of May 10, 2026. This period also covers resolution of any nomination disputes. INEC urges all stakeholders to uphold transparency and inclusiveness in their internal contests. Further guidelines on monitoring and other election stages will follow in the coming weeks.
