Lagos Announces Independence Bridge Traffic Diversion for Weekend Repairs

Lagos State has announced a traffic diversion on Independence Bridge in Lagos Island as the Federal Ministry of Works begins asphalt repairs. The work will start on the night of Friday, October 16, 2026, and continue through Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18. Both inbound and outbound lanes will be affected. Sections of the bridge will be partially closed one at a time, while a lane remains open for motorists. Road users are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes during the repairs.
