NEMA Trains Kaduna Communities in Flood Rescue Ahead of 2026 Rains

NEMA Trains Kaduna Communities in Flood Rescue Ahead of 2026 Rains

The National Emergency Management Agency has trained Kaduna residents in flood rescue ahead of the 2026 rainy season. This drill is part of NEMA’s 2026 Disaster Preparedness and Response Campaign on floods and related hazards across the country. Suleiman Muhammad, Head of Operations at NEMA’s Kaduna office, said the exercise equips communities to act as first responders and minimise losses before official rescue teams arrive. Predictions by meteorological and hydrological agencies place Kaduna under moderate flood risk next season, with 21 local government areas likely to be affected. A local church leader praised the training and urged lasting government solutions to the twice-yearly flooding challenges.

It's interesting that NEMA focuses on drills months before the rains, but few details mention follow-up support.

I no too sure say these exercises dey include more remote villages, seems like urban centres always get priority.

Local groups should map flood-prone areas now and coordinate with NEMA to ensure training reaches every vulnerable neighbourhood.
