Golden Globes Places Michael Jackson Biopic in Drama Race

The Golden Globes has rejected Lionsgate’s attempt to enter Michael, the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, in the Comedy or Musical categories for the 2027 awards. The committee reportedly ruled that the film’s musical performances do not advance the plot enough to meet its definition of a musical. The film is now expected to compete in the Drama categories, although Lionsgate can appeal before the October 31 deadline. Michael stars Jaafar Jackson as his uncle, Michael Jackson, and follows the late singer’s journey from the Jackson 5 to global stardom. Colman Domingo and Nia Long, who play Jackson’s parents, can still compete in the supporting acting categories regardless of genre.
