Three Nigerian Women Lured by Fake Malaysia Job Offers and Forced into Sex Slavery in Mali
Three Nigerian women say they were recruited in Ogun State by an agent promising bar and housekeeping jobs in Malaysia. Instead, they endured a six-day journey through checkpoints into Benin and onward to Mali, where they were confined in makeshift brothel camps. They allege they were held under debt bondage, each forced to repay 1.5 million CFA francs for their freedom. Phones were seized, they were separated and compelled into daily sexual exploitation with payments handed directly to their handlers. Their ordeal ended when one victim secretly contacted her family, prompting embassy intervention. A human trafficking expert warns this case reflects a wider West African network using deception, fraud and force to exploit vulnerable Nigerians.
