Cultivating Unconditional Love: Give What You Can Afford to Lose
We often start with conditional love—expecting thanks, respect or a return favour. But true growth in love comes when we learn to give without attachments or demands. Unconditional love means offering what you can genuinely afford to lose. If you have N2000 and N20 is all you can spare without pain, give it wholeheartedly, without judging the amount. That freedom brings peace, no matter how much you give. Expectations—“She didn’t thank me enough,” or “I hope he loves me forever”—only lead to suffering when we give beyond our means. The difference between what we can afford and what we force ourselves to give is the price we pay in disappointment and regret. This principle applies to money, time, trust and attention. Practice true giving by extending kindness even to the ungrateful or those who cannot repay you. The act itself becomes its own reward.
