Osun Capital Projects: Questions Raised Over Uneven Infrastructure Spending

Questions have been raised over how major capital projects are distributed across Osun State. A review of figures supplied by concerned citizens and political observers puts the value of identified projects at about ₦362.3 billion, although the figures require confirmation through official records. The review claims that eight projects in Ede Federal Constituency are valued at about ₦260.5 billion, or 71.9 per cent of the total examined. Other reported allocations include ₦31.2 billion for Osogbo, ₦17.6 billion for Ile-Ife, ₦16.5 billion for Ilesa, ₦9.8 billion for Iwo, ₦9.4 billion for Ila, ₦9 billion for Ikirun and ₦29.97 million for Ikire. Residents and stakeholders, including those in Ijesaland, are calling for more visible investment in roads, education, industry and other public infrastructure. They want the Osun State Government to publish a detailed project audit showing project locations, contract sums, contractors, funding sources, completion status and the criteria used for selecting projects. The central issue is whether Osun's capital spending reflects a balanced statewide development plan that serves every community fairly.
