Why the Jilli Market Airstrike Was Necessary Against Terrorist Logistics
I have followed with deep concern reports of the airstrike at Jilli Market on the Borno–Yobe border. While the loss of over fifty lives is tragic, this operation targeted a known Boko Haram and ISWAP logistics hub. The Nigerian Air Force and intelligence officers acted on credible information that terrorists used the weekly market to collect levies, procure supplies, and plan attacks. This site has long served insurgents despite multiple military raids, including Operation LAST HOLD in 2018. Civilians who continued to trade there risked serving as shields for terrorists. No army sets out to harm innocents, but when warnings go unheeded, decisive action becomes necessary. I call on residents of Geidam, Gubio, Damasak, and Ngamdu to cooperate with the armed forces. Avoid markets dominated by insurgents. Communities that supply terrorists invite danger. We owe our soldiers our support. They struck a legitimate target. As we mourn the innocent, we must maintain our resolve against an enemy that spares none. May the departed rest in peace, and the injured recover swiftly.
