Lagos Police Arrest Six Over Alleged ₦20bn Cargo Diversion Syndicate

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspects accused of diverting imported goods worth more than ₦20 billion from Apapa Port and other locations over about 19 years. Police said the suspects allegedly posed as transporters, accepted haulage jobs from importers and diverted consignments meant for destinations across Nigeria. The group is accused of using changing phone numbers and SIM cards to avoid detection. In the latest case, police alleged that forklifts, fabrics and imported plates valued at about ₦3 billion were diverted after a consignment meant for Kano was taken to Ojota, Lagos. Some fabrics were later traced to a market in Agege. Police said investigations are continuing to identify other suspects and recover goods. The allegations have not been proven in court.
