Viggo Mortensen is an American actor, filmmaker and artist best known for playing Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Born on October 20, 1958, in New York City, he spent parts of his childhood in Venezuela, Denmark and Argentina before pursuing acting in the United States. He made his film debut in Witness in 1985 and later earned critical acclaim for A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic and Green Book. His performances in Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic and Green Book brought him Academy Award nominations for Best Actor. Beyond acting, Mortensen is a painter, photographer, musician and publisher. He directed and starred in the 2020 drama Falling. He holds American, Canadian and Danish citizenship and has an estimated net worth of $40 million.
