Abia Public School Students Win International Debate Championship in Qatar
Students from Abia State public schools, representing Nigeria, have emerged overall champions at the 2026 International Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar. The team competed against participants from eight countries and defeated teams including Jordan, India, Qatar, Kenya and the Philippines. They won the Best International School Debate Team award, Overall Best Team in the junior category, Best Leadership Award, Best Debater Award and 12 individual laurels. The championship was coordinated by the Vocara Institute and hosted by the QatarDebate Centre. Abia officials said the students’ performance reflects progress in the state’s education sector and that the team will be honoured on its return.
