Five Teenagers on Trial in Sweden for Alleged Plot Against Iranian Dissident
Five youths aged 15 to 17 have gone on trial in Gothenburg District Court over an alleged attempt to murder Iranian dissident researcher Arvin Khoshnood. Three face charges of attempted murder, while two are charged with complicity. According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on September 2, 2025, in Malmö. A 16-year-old suspect armed with a knife tried to gain entry by asking for the researcher. Khoshnood’s quick reaction and a photograph he took helped secure key evidence. No one was physically harmed. Investigators say the main suspect was recruited online by a criminal network promising payment for the attack. Prosecutors describe this as “crime as a service,” with an unnamed mastermind directing the operation. Khoshnood believes the plot links to Foxtrot, a major organised crime group in Sweden. Sweden’s security service has previously warned that some foreign governments may exploit gangs to target opposition figures. Authorities also note rising threats to US, Israeli and Jewish interests in Sweden amid wider geopolitical tensions.
