Open Letter to President Tinubu: A Call for Justice and Reconciliation in the South-East

I address President Tinubu with profound respect and urge decisive action to consolidate peace in the South-East. History shows that political marginalisation and security failures fuelled despair and unrest. Many young Igbo men remain detained or prosecuted for alleged IPOB membership with questionable evidence. I commend the reforms your administration has introduced, which have eased tensions. Yet too many detainees have languished for years without fair trials. Their cases raise serious constitutional concerns about the rights to personal liberty and a public hearing. I respectfully call on the Attorney-General to undertake a comprehensive review of these prolonged detentions. Justice tempered with fairness can fulfil Nigeria’s promise of reconciliation, strengthen national unity, and close one of the most painful chapters in our history.
