Defence HQ Confirms JAS Terrorists Carried Out Oyo School Kidnapping
The Nigerian military has confirmed that the abduction of students, pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State was carried out by the JAS terror group. Major General Michael Onoja issued a statement clarifying earlier Defence Headquarters comments. He said the initial remark aimed to provide intelligence context and prevent public panic, not to downplay the security threat. The statement explains that the JAS fighters were dislodged from other regions by military operations. It rejects claims that the Defence Headquarters insulted elected leaders or minimized the crime’s severity. So far, 29 students and seven teachers remain in captivity after the recent attack. One teacher was tragically beheaded, and the Oyo State Police Command says no rescues have taken place.
