UK Forces Shoot Down 14 Iranian Kamikaze Drones in Erbil Raid
RAF Regiment gunners stationed in Erbil used the Rapid Sentry ground-based missile system to destroy 14 Iranian kamikaze drones during an overnight assault. A defence source told a UK newspaper this was the highest single-night tally for British forces since the conflict began nearly four weeks ago. British intelligence reports indicate Iran has stepped up its missile and drone launches across the Gulf, even as overall attacks have dipped recently. There were no British casualties at the northern Iraq air base, where SAS troops have also served. The Rapid Sentry system, developed by Thales UK, weighs under 500 kg and features a modular design for mounting on various vehicles. It carries four ready-to-launch missiles guided by laser beams, offering precise strikes. Its sensors can detect targets over 15 km away and engage them at ranges beyond 7 km, making it highly effective against drones, helicopters and low-altitude aircraft.
