INEC Plans 7:30 A.M. Polling Unit Readiness for 2027 Elections
INEC says it is strengthening transport arrangements and introducing digital tracking to help election officials and materials reach polling units by 7:30 a.m. for the 2027 general elections. The commission says Registration Area Centres will allow personnel and materials to be moved closer to polling units a day before voting. A proposed transport matrix and digital platform will track the movement of sensitive materials, identify delays and assign responsibility where necessary. Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly polls will hold on February 6. INEC says the measures respond to logistical delays recorded in previous elections, though it acknowledges that difficult terrain and unforeseen disruptions may still affect some locations. The commission is also engaging transport unions and considering additional support for voters with disabilities, including sign language interpreters for deaf voters.
