“It Is Well”: The Shunammite Woman’s Strategy of Faith
In 2 Kings 4, the Shunammite woman’s words, “It is well,” were not denial or surrender. After her son died, she placed him on Elisha’s bed, closed the door, and set out to find the prophet instead of inviting others to begin mourning. She gave no details to people who could not change the situation. Her restraint was not a lack of grief; when she reached Elisha, she expressed her pain honestly. The passage shows the difference between hiding pain from God and taking pain directly to Him. There is wisdom in seeking counsel, but not every opinion should shape your response in a crisis. When a situation feels hopeless, bring your unfiltered fears, questions, and grief before God rather than allowing shallow voices to pronounce a final verdict. What situation have you allowed others to write off when you should have taken it to God in prayer? Reference scriptures: 2 Kings 4:18–37 and Hebrews 4:16.
