NFF Denies Negligence After Referee Dies During Abuja Fitness Test
The Nigeria Football Federation Development Committee says there was no negligence in the death of a referee during a fitness test in Abuja. Committee chairman Faith Irabor said the referee submitted an ECG report and medical clearance from his state before the exercise. She added that the medical team at the venue conducted further checks and monitored participants throughout the test. Irabor said officials intervened when the referee showed signs of distress, attempted resuscitation and conveyed him to hospital in a functional ambulance. The committee is now considering centralising medical screening at the National Hospital to strengthen safeguards for referees.
